Combat Tips for GG

I ran a fleet of this type once before for my corp in Hulkageddon 2, and a contest of this sort in Hulkageddon 3. These are the things I have learned. If you have other tips please share them as comments.

NEW:

Use locator agent
to find known gankers that are -5 or below to catch their pods for more points.

Form a corp and dec 'em
If you're a pvper you can get a good advantage over those of us fighting along-side CONCORD by doing this. Best defense is a good offense?

Mandatory:

When you see reds, shoot them. You have only seconds to target, scram, and hopefully shoot your target ship. Do not use this time gawking at them or typing in corp chat "OMG so many reds!"

Scan Resolution is your friend. This determines how fast you target the ship. Pods are very fast and so is concord. All you need to do to get a "kill" though, is get a web scram on one of them. Boost your Scan Resolution by flying smaller ships, using mods for this, or by using remote scan resolution boosting. Two frigates remotely boosting each others scan resolution can target almost instantly.

CTRL-CLICK to target. If you hold the Ctrl key, then click on the ship in overview, this is the fastest way to target. Drag your Warp Scram module from the middle row to the first button of the top row. This will allow you to activate it with the f1 key.

Use FRIGATES for speed. The best performers seem to be faction frigs. T2 or even t1 can work. (experimenting with larger ships might work if you have some sort of bright idea but be warned, for standard griefer-catching, they will NOT work)

Cloaks: unless you have a stealth bomber, DON'T. Cloaks will make targeting the ship/pod in time to get a kill impossible.

Bait Hulks: These have not worked for me. The griefers tend to scan out hulk's fitting before picking one to attack. If your hulk is overly tanked they might not go for it at all. On the other hand, having no tank what-so-ever is a sure way to get insta-popped by a BS. (We do have a prize for most "kills" with a hulk)

Look at the map: the map will show you where the most kills have occurred. These places probably will not get hit again the same day. Look for systems that were heavily hit in prior hulkageddons but have not been hit yet. Also look for hulks mining ore in or around systems with ice belts – ice-bearing systems seem to be loci of griefer attacks.

Gate camp on the high sec side: Find the gate that leads into low sec from the ice belt or system that is being hard-hit and sit 15km off the gate with a fast-targeting ship. When you see reds go in or out, shoot them. You may not get as many kills this way, but you will prevent -5 sec standing people from entering the system or pods from leaving it.

Extra Credit:

Spy! The griefers have chat channels in which they work together. Put an alt in one of them to find out where they are going.

Shooting non-reds: some pods of gankers may be non-red. Non-red pods of gankers are still valid targets, but CONCORD will kill you for it and your security status will drop by 3 points. If your sec status drops below -5 you'll be stuck in low sec. Be mindful of this if you chose to kill a non-red pod. In case of a tie, a personal sacrifice like this will be used as a tie breaker.

  2. I fell prey to the following tactic when a hulka geddon wasn't being run.....
The griefer had his smartbomb-fitted Typhoon brought to the belt by an orca (who had high sec-standing). The griefer just warped to the orca in his pod and activated his ship on top of me. Dont know if this is a well-known tactic but beware of strange orca's popping up especially if followed by a flashy pod

  3. just making notes for the next hulkageddon here

-- use bookmarks to warp between this allowed a battleship to keep pace with a frigate

-- really: look at their kill board and see where they are active and go there.

-- if you put more than one offensive module on a ship (target painter, scram, etc) you can get multi concord kill mails. make sure scram is one of the modules and that you get the pod after if you can.
